Hook Retrofit - Ready when you are! It’s time to comply with new IMO regulations For more than a decade, on-load release hooks have been the cause of numerous accidents, some fatal. The fear of hook failures has often held crews back from performing the necessary drills, and the reputation of lifeboats and rescue craft as a safety measure has suffered as a result. Lifeboat hooks, referred as “Lifeboat Release and Retrieval Systems” (LRRS), are the focus of the International Maritime Organization’s MSC.1/Circ.1392, which calls for mandatory improvements to safeguard lives and MSC.1/Circ. 1206 rev.1 for periodic servicing and maintenance of LRRS. 6 July 2014 -2019 Hook Retrofit (installation and test) Every lifeboat release and retrieval system must be compliant to MSC.1/ Circ.1392 no later than the first drydocking after 1st July 2014. July 2013- June 2014 Planning phase for shipowners and operators If the system is not in compliance, planning for Hook Retrofit including selecting location and hook solution. Until July 2013 Self assessment and design review All hooks submitted for review under LSA code 4.4.7.6.4 to 4.4.7.6.6 will be listed in the IMO/GISIS database as compliant after modification or non-compliant.
