Fabric edge Grain line Fabric edge GRAIN LINE: Use a tape measure to measure the distance from the thread direction arrow to the edge og the fabric to make sure it is parallel. On the sewing pattern, the thread direction has an arrow at one end and if the fabric is patterned, shiny (e.g. satin) or has a pile (e.g. velvet and velour), all arrows should point in the same direction. If necessary, trace the pieces with chalk or a mark- er (never use a pencil or ballpoint pen). You can also pin the pattern pieces in place with pins. RIGHT AND LEFT: Remember to draw right-left parts where indi- cated. You will find one part on the pattern sheet and need to flip it to get the mirrored part. The mirrored part is shown with a dotted line, see "How to cut your sewing project". PLACEMENT: We recommend that you place all the pattern pieces and draw them on your fabric before you start cutting out the pieces. Leave each pattern piece on the cut-out fabric until you need the piece. CUT: Cut out the pieces with sharp scissors that are only used for fabric. If you also use your scissors for paper, they will become dull. It's important that you cut exactly along the edge of your sewing pattern. If it's difficult to tell the difference between the front and back side of the fabric, you can mark the back side with a chalk mark or pin. Mark inside markings and sewing lines with chalk or a marking pen. 3.
