This will be shown on your sewing pattern with scissors. 2. NOTCHES: Mark small notches in the seams by cutting a small notch (2-3 mm), or mark the notches with chalk or a marking pen (especially useful if your fabric is prone to fraying). The small notches in the seam allowance are used when you sew the pieces together. Therefore, it is important that you can see the notches when sewing. Notches are placed over notches or notches over seams. INTERLINING: If your pattern piece is marked with dots all over, you will also need to cut this piece in inter- lining. If it only has a small area of dots, you only need to cut a piece of interlining for that specific area. See the section "Why and how to use inter- lining in your sewing project". GRAIN LINE: Place the sewing pattern pieces on the front of the fabric. It is important that the direction of the sewing pat- tern pieces is parallel to the edge of the fabric.
