CEO statement Welcome to our 2019 CSR report. The year brought with it many exciting changes and achievements for VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S (VIKING). We acquired Drew Marine’s Fire Safety and Rescue (FSR) division, which is one of the top three marine fire service providers in the world. The acquisition further strengthens VIKING’s portfolio and boosts our industry-leading profile as an endto-end supplier of full-scope maritime safety and firefighting solutions. As the leading global supplier of maritime safety equipment and firefighting equipment, we know we have a responsibility to be a leader in CSR, too. Our everyday work is guided by internationally recognized standards. It is driven by the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention regulations that help us secure our number one CSR priority: Saving lives at sea. Furthermore, to ensure our actions genuinely contribute to building a better world for both people and our planet, we’ve aligned our CSR activities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. VIKING’S CSR efforts in 2019 led us to reduce lost time accidents by 2.5 per million working hours compared with the previous year, develop a new supplier risk assessment that addresses human rights and labor, recycle materials from scrapped liferafts and pursue energy and environmental certifications. Moving forward, we will strategically incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals into our new five-year business plan. We’ll also continue to develop our enterprise-wide goals to save lives at sea, develop local communities, conduct ethical operations and respect the planet.
