CEO statement 2018 was a year of achievements for VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S (VIKING). The most significant of these was the acquisition of Norwaybased lifeboat and davits manufacturer, Norsafe, adding some 800 employees into the VIKING family. Norsafe has contributed to maritime safety for over a century and, through this acquisition, we have strengthened our presence and ability to service the maritime industry. A new CSR workgroup was formed, reporting to executive management. The workgroup will be responsible for monitoring the progress of CSR projects, communicating results to stakeholders and keeping CSR in focus. Our CSR strategy has been revisited and we have fine-tuned its focus areas, highlighting our number one priority of saving lives at sea. Supported by the principles of the internationally recognized Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention, our everyday work is driven by this priority. In 2018, the annual employee satisfaction survey enabled us to delve deeper into what promotes well-being and to identify areas where the workplace can be improved. We are pleased to report that the 2018 results improved from last year, rating well above the average global level of satisfaction. The year also saw continued innovation, working closely with our customers to meet their maritime safety needs in new ways. These efforts were driven by the ever-present threat of losing lives at sea, new polar sailing routes and an unceasing desire to simplify and strengthen maritime safety. Renewed focus was also brought to bear on the training programs that serve to keep our people up to date with maritime safety legislation and certification, as well as the training we offer for officers and crew in the passenger, cargo and offshore sectors. Being the global leader in maritime safety and firefighting equipment and servicing brings with it responsibility to lead the way in CSR, too. And VIKING is proud to take on that responsibility in the years to come.
