The European parliament defines Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as “The responsibility of enterprises for their impact on society” and adds that “to fully meet their corporate social responsibility, enterprises should have in place a process to integrate social, environmental, ethical and human rights concerns into their business operations and core strategy in close collaboration with their stakeholders.” CEO statement Welcome to our corporate social responsibility report for 2016. VIKING’s unrelenting focus, reflected in our tagline: ‘Protecting People and Business’, is on saving the lives of passengers and crew in emergency situations – and on working to ensure that providing worldclass safety is as easy as possible for shipowners and other maritime decision-makers. This work represents a direct contribution to society – but naturally, our efforts don’t stop there. Given the nature of our production processes, many of which involve expert craftsmanship rather than machinery, VIKING is not a major generator of waste, nor do we require high levels of electricity or other energy sources to drive production. Instead, a key focal point for our CSR efforts is the protection of our employees. And, in this important respect, 2016 showed continued progress both from safety and well-being perspectives. Despite the difficulties that lie ahead for 2017 – both in market and geo-political terms – VIKING will work to strengthen every aspect of our company’s impact on and role within the wider community. This report represents the statutory statement for VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S within social responsibility for the 2016 financial year, and is included as part of the management statement in the 2016 financial reports. Henrik Uhd Christensen CEO, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S
