The European Parliament defines Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as “The responsibility of enterprises for their impacts on society,” and goes on to add: “To fully meet their corporate social responsibility, enterprises should have in place a process to integrate social, environmental, ethical, human rights and consumer concerns into their business operations and core strategy in close collaboration with their stakeholders.” CEO statement Welcome to our Corporate Social Responsibility Report for 2017. Since its founding in 1960, VIKING has focused on saving passengers and crew in life-threatening situations. For many years now, we have also worked to simplify the process for shipowners and other maritime decision makers when it comes to establishing and maintaining a high level of safety. We view our products and services as a contribution to creating a safer world. Our contributions also extend beyond our products and services, including our commitment to supporting the local communities in which we operate. We dedicated resources in 2017 to preparing for the implementation of a new Global Management System. This Group-wide platform is designed to record events in areas such as quality, environment and working environment. The system will give us a much better collection of data, enabling faster response to deviations and other critical issues, and ensuring that we continue to make the right decisions going forward. We also focused on proximity sourcing in 2017, striving to purchase locally, be it in our European or Asian operations. Following the opening of our factory in Bulgaria, a number of new suppliers have entered the market, both locally and throughout Eastern Europe. The resulting reduction of transport distances has lessened the environmental and infrastructural impact. The maritime market is expected to continue fluctuating in 2018, with some segments facing difficulty, but this will not cause us to scale back our efforts to make a positive difference and take responsibility as part of the global community. This report represents the statutory statement for VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S within social responsibility for the 2017 financial year, and is included as part of the management statement in the 2017 financial reports. Henrik Uhd Christensen CEO, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S
