Responsibility in action: THE BATTLE AGAINST HAZARDOUS PARTICLES REACHES NEW HEIGHTS While fighting fires, firefighters risk exposure to known and potential carcinogens. VIKING collaborates with leading experts in materials and firefighting – specialists and practitioners with experience from structural firefighting – to develop fire suits that can further prevent harmful impact and help reduce job hazards. Research and development efforts are being conducted in several areas simultaneously. In addition to the fight against potentially hazardous particles, it is imperative that a fire suit is comfortable and flexible to wear. Despite many layers of protection, these suits must give firefighters sufficient freedom of movement to perform optimally in a high-pressure situation. The new VIKING PartX™ technology is the result of an innovation process, setting new standards in protection from hazardous particles. This technology has been tested in our laboratories and by independent test centers in Scandinavia. In terms of materials, multilayer design and particle-reducing filters, test results show that these new features represent an important new step towards making firefighting a safer job. But we are not going to stop here and rest on our laurels. We will forge ahead with our continuous efforts to find innovative solutions for the benefit of firefighters and their families.
