VIKING MiniSlide Systems, VEMS TECHNICAL INFORMATION EDITION 1 / 2017 Additional liferafts of various sizes can be incorporated into the system to suit individual vessel requirements. The VEMS is also available in a non-SOLAS version with open liferafts. The VIKING Evacuation MiniSlide, or VEMS,is designed specifically for vessels with low embarkation deck heights. The VEMS is designed for vessels operating in any sea condition. It is available with either a 101 person open reversible liferaft for vessels operating in sheltered waters or a SOLAS compliant 101 person self-righting canopied liferaft for vessels operating in open seas. Proven and trusted design The mini slide system is designed to be ultra stable both through the inherent material strength and by design construction. The slide is manufactured from hard wearing, sturdy natural rubber on webbing and pre-attached to the liferaft floor for faster evacuation and excellent stability. The VEMS has been tested in very heavy sea conditions and in extremes of heat and cold to verify its stability and reliability. Deployment The VEMS is deployed manually or by a remote release system. The container falls from the stowage rack into the water. It is bowsed in towards the ship’s side with two bowsing winches. The bowsing action inflates the liferaft as it is pulled into position. Self-contained and compact The VEMS takes up the minimum of deck space, the same as a standard liferaft container, and can be stowed on standard steel or aluminium racks anywhere on board. The slide is pre-attached to the 101 person liferaft and packed into the rigid container. Adaptable capacity Additional liferafts can be installed along with the system to increase evacuation capacity to suit any vessel requirements. With additional throw overboard liferafts, the VEMS can evacuate over 501 persons in 30 minutes. Flexible installation The VEMS system can be installed on decks well above the embarkation station. The system can be positioned to suit existing ship design or facilitate intergration with a ships design at the drawing board stage. Additional liferafts can be stored anywhere on board - even in remote locations.
