EDITION 1 / 2017 VIKING Evacuation MiniChute, VEMC TECHNICAL INFORMATION The MiniChute system is easily removed as one unit for servicing. VIKING’s Evacuation MiniChute system is designed especially for small and medium sized vessels with embarkation heights of 5 to 20 metres. The VEMC design is based on the effective design of the full size VIKING Evacuation Chute (VEC). It is lightweight, compact and fully contained in the stowage unit for installation almost anywhere on board. Proven fast, stable evacuation The VIKING Evacuation MiniChute has been subjected to exhaustive trials onshore and at sea in extreme climates and in rough sea conditions exceeding those stipulated by SOLAS requirements. This advanced evacuation system has proven to be an exceptionally stable system providing rapid and safe evacuation directly into liferafts. The self-righting liferaft is pre-installed onto the chute system and inflates automatically. Passenger protection The reinforced Aramid evacuation chute provides a safe provides a safe descent path and compensates for ship and sea movement, keeping the evacuation route clear at all times. The chute protects evacuees from environmental hazards, such as severe weather, during evacuation. A tarpaulin protects against over-icing for vessels sailing in Polar waters. One pull deployment One simple pull on the slip hook launches the system. The chute is automatically pulled out into position as the container falls into the water. A sharp pull on the painter line inflates the liferaft and the chute outlet is automatically pulled into the liferaft ready for evacuation. Self-contained and compact The system is self-contained and compact, which means that it can be installed anywhere onboard; on open deck or between decks in an open recess with a float free unit above the system. Installation heights are from 5 to 20 m above waterline calculated from lightest sea condition to installation deck. Flexible capacity The system can evacuate 582 people within 30 minutes to a ready mounted self-righting liferaft. This capacity is reached with additional throw overboard liferafts. These liferafts are released by remote release and pulled into position alongside the system liferaft ready for inflation. System features: n Evacuation capacity: 582 persons within 30 minutes, or 326 within 17 minutes 40 seconds (High Speed Craft) n Flexible and stable, even in very rough seas n Simple to operate n Requires few crew members and little specialised training n Flexible installation and capacity n Can be used in combination with a wide range of different liferaft types n Complies with all international regulations n Thoroughly tested according to international regulations n Unique and lightweight design n Quick and simple mounting and dismounting for service n Reinforced chute made of Aramid for evacuee protection System approvals: SOLAS 74, Reg. III/4 & III/34, as amended by IMO Res. MSC 48(66) and IMO Res. SC 81(70) EC type approval acc. to EC Directive 96/98/ EC. Liferaft approvals: SOLAS, IMO, USCG, MCA, EC and other national authorities.
