BIM data from past projects and operational data possess an unlocked potential when it comes to informing future de- sign decisions. If meaningful and useful patterns discovered in existing data are available, a design professional should be able to match the current design with discovered patterns. The decisions can then be based not only on professional experience, but also on quantified results from operation. However, such patterns are not readily available and not easily provided. The following sections outline the necessary steps and showcase a conceptual solution for a design decision support system (DDSS) integrated in a CDE, aiming to provide patterns that can inform the decision-making.
