How to handle recycling packaging General recycling packaging instructions Shipment of up to 3 boxes Step 1: Prepare the packaging of the material Put the material inside the boxes, max 20 kg (48.5 lbs) and ensure the boxes are properly closed and banded. Step 2: Add a label to the box Print out the received labels and put them on the top of each box. Do not put the label on a closer or on top of the sealing band. Make sure that the labels are clearly visible to enable the barcode to be scanned. Shipment of pallets Step 1: Choose the right pallet What is meant by pallet? Pallets are light weighted frames usually made of plastic or wood and they are used to make the transportation of the goods easier. A pallet is often handled with a truck; therefore the measurement and condition of the pallet are important so that the carrier can pick it up. Size of pallet? The size of the pallet depends on which country or region you ship from. Within Europe, it’s possible to also load barrels on half and quarter pallets as well as full pallets. UK USA Type of pallet Height (cm/ inch ) Length (cm/ inch ) Width (cm/ inch ) 1/1 (Whole) 15/ 5.9 120/ 47.2 100/ 39.4 1/1 (Whole) 15/ 5.9 120/ 47.2 102/ 40.2 Europe 1/1 (Whole) 15/ 5.9 120/ 47.2 80/ 31.5 Europe Europe 1/2 (Half) 15/ 5.9 80/ 31.5 60/ 23.6 1/4 (Quarter) 15/ 5.9 60/ 23.6 40/ 15.7 Type of pallets Using a new pallet or a pallet in mint condition is recommended versus using a damaged or repaired pallet. Even though reusing a pallet could be cost- efficient and good for the environment, a reused pallet has a higher risk of breaking than a new one or one in mint condition. A pallet can be made from different materials, for example wood, plastic, metal, fiberboard, or corrugated pallets. We recommend using wood pallets with four-way entry capabilities since they are sturdy and consistent.

How to handle recycling packaging General recycling packaging instructions Step 2: Load the pallet correctly The height of the loaded pallet (including boxes or barrels on the pallet) should not exceed the following values: Maximum height and weight loaded pallets 1/1 pallet (Whole) 1/2 pallet (Half) 1/4 pallet (Quarter) Height cm inch 200 78 150 59 120 47 Weight kg 1000 500 200 ibs 2205 1102 440 For shipment of more than three boxes we recommend you to send barrels instead of boxes. If shipping more than three boxes these should be strapped on a pallet. Stack the boxes on a pallet The boxes should be column stacked on the pallet. This way the boxes are stacked safely with great stacking strength. The boxes should not be pyramid stacked since it exposes the goods to damage, risk of delay, and additional surcharges. The boxes should not overhang the pallet’s edges since the goods can be exposed to damage and can weaken the box’s individual strength by more than 30%. Use banding, edge protection, and preferably shrink wrap for pallets loaded with boxes. Do not use black-colored shrink wrap. Load the barrels on a pallet Before loading the barrels, they should be tightly tied together with steel or polypropylene bands. Metal bands are preferred for metal barrels and for shipments over 100 kg (220 lbs). Place the single barrel or the group of barrels as close as possible to the center of the pallet and ensure that there is no overhang. Pallets loaded with barrels need to be banded and preferably shrink-wrapped. Do not use black- colored shrink wrap. Step 3: Add a label to the pallet Print out the received labels and put labels on the shrink wrap on each side of the pallet and on top of the pallet. Make sure that the labels are clearly visible to enable the barcode to be scanned. Scan the QR code and find out more information
