Fewer breakdowns or lower fuel costs? How about both Reading, United Kingdom – 200k pop. With 34 Scania biogas buses covering six routes since 2013, the town of Reading is definitely doing their part to help the UK reach an ambitious emissions reduction target of 80% by the year 2050. With positive passenger feedback and a 7-15% year over year growth on the routes running biogas buses, combined with a 30% fuel cost saving, it’s not hard to understand why more Scania buses are on their way to Reading. 22 additional Scania Euro 6 biogas double deckers are planned for the near future, alongside an upgrade of the existing biogas fuel infrastructure to keep supplying an ever growing fleet of cleaner, quieter and more reliable vehicles. Teaming up towards a cleaner future Kalmar region, Sweden – 230k pop. The Kalmar county public transportation is serviced by four separate operators – but as of August 2017, Scania supplies those operators with fossil free, reliable and modern buses. All under one contract. The first delivery of 95 Scania biogas buses is just the start of the long-term project which covers more than five hundred vehicles – and over a thousand drivers – and includes long-term service contracts and financing. The 95 buses all run Euro 6 gas engines with a 700 km range, with torque and power virtually indistinguishable from diesel engines. And with on-board WiFi, USB-charging, wheelchair accessibility and dedicated child seats the new vehicles are definitely up for the task, not only in terms of sustainability – but also in terms of comfort and utility for the passengers. 10 11
