BUILT TO HANDLE THE FUTURE Today, the environmental costs of fossil fuels are greater than their price at the pump. And with increasingly strict emissions restrictions in our cities, running a fleet with low local emissions of particulates and NO x helps you stay competitive. Developing a complete bus & coach range for biodiesel and HVO is a big challenge. Scania's strategic material selection and modular approach was key to leading the way in making these solutions available. The competitive advantage of this proactive work is that we can optimise combustion for each specific fuel in a wide range of engines to deliver all the power and reliability you expect from a Scania. 6 Diesel and HVO Every Scania Euro 6 diesel engine is also an HVO engine. The two fuels are interchangeable but HVO burns much cleaner. Biodiesel Out of our nine Euro 6 certified diesel engines, four can be run on biodiesel – and achieve Euro 6 FAME certification with our adapted aftertreatment system and biodiesel compatible filters installed. BIODIESEL FAME OR HVO What’s the difference? Biodiesel FAME and HVO are both made from the same renewable sources – but are manufactured using different methods. Where methanol is used as a reactant for biodiesel FAME during manufacturing, hydrogen is used for HVO – which fully removes the oxygen. This does not only bring further emissions savings, but also makes for a fuel with better longevity in the tank by reducing oxidation. Adapted aftertreatment Our modular adapted aftertreatment system for biodiesel reduces NOx to well below Euro 6 limits. 7
