BETTER VISION, SAFER DRIVING Safety is at the core of Scania’s DNA, driving our commitment to ensuring safe transport for everyone on the road. As part of this dedication, we launched the Prioritising Vision Care to Enhance Road Safety initiative, focusing on driver health as a key factor in accident prevention. By offering vision screenings and health checks, we aim to protect not only our drivers but all road users, reinforcing our mission to save lives and create safer roads. In October 2024, Scania partnered with the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation to conduct vision screenings in Bonje, Mombasa. Over 950 drivers were tested for refractive errors, field of vision, colour perception, and allergies, with results showing that 72% required corrective eyeglasses, 22% had normal vision, and 6% were referred for further medical attention. In December 2024, Scania extended this initiative to Tanzania, partnering with CCBRT to provide vision tests, blood pressure checks, and diabetes screenings for truck and bus drivers. Over 200 drivers participated in the four-day event, with more than 90 receiving corrective lenses and medication to address immediate health concerns. This initiative is about more than improving driver safety—it reflects Scania’s commitment to community well-being. By tackling health and vision challenges, we are not only contributing to safer roads but also setting an example of how businesses can collaborate with local organisations to drive meaningful social change.
