STENO DIABETES CENTER ODENSE 1 Executive summary The health political focus on creating a more coherent and integrated health care system puts the needs of patients first and prepares the ground for closer collaboration between hospitals, municipalities and general practice. In this respect, Steno Diabetes Center Odense (SDCO) is in many ways a frontrunner From the very beginning, we have focused on cross-sector collaboration and user involvement in large parts of our work. We collaborate with other institutions on several projects to strengthen the measures to combat diabetes in a time, where the number of people with diabetes in Denmark presumable will double over a period of years, among these the preparation of a concept for the municipal type 2 diabetes patient education. The first year of the patient advisory committee has left a great impact on SDCO, both in terms of preparation of the strategy for user involvement and collaboration, as well as in other cases, where their opinions are being heard – nobody knows life with diabetes better than the people with diabetes or their relatives. Our users are also the focal point in the strategy for our hallmark, type 2 diabetes. The preparation of this strategy has made us consider our roll in the future, that also comprises and supports the treatment and prevention of diabetes outside the hospital. By the end of 2019, we have implemented no less than 15 supplementary treatment initiatives in our clinic. At the same time, the processes around both the development of new initiatives, implementation, follow-up and evaluation have fallen into place. Furthermore, vital building blocks have been placed for the work within skills development of health professionals in 2019, among these the work with the skills profile for nurses in collaboration with Steno Partner hospitals, and the many offered courses, that have provided us with better knowledge of our three primary target groups: hospitals, municipals and general practice. Finally, we completed our research strategy in 2019, which based on five strategic research areas and a continuation of Danish Center for Strategic Research in Type 2 Diabetes (DD2), will pave the way for our ambition to raise the clinical and translational research to the highest international level. 2
