Region SyddanmarkWelcome to the Day Clinic Til patienter og pårørende Vælg farve The Day Clinic is a day surgery unit, receiving patients who have just undergone surgery for various ailments Your surgery is scheduled for the ___________ On the last weekday before surgery, you will receive a phone call between 14 and 16 o´clock. If you have not received an appointment before 16 o´clock, you must call the phone number 65412802 before 18 o´clock, in order to receive your appointment time. Where to meet on your surgeryday The Day Clinic is located by the Otorhinolaryngology Ward called F2. Ward F2 is located on the 9th floor in the central block, behind entrance 20. When can you go home You can expect to go home a few hours after surgery. You may not drive a car yourself after the surgery, therefore we recommend that you have friends or family to pick you up. Your relatives Your close ones can be a great support It is important to us that your close ones feel welcome in the unit. Your close ones are very welcome to participate in consultations and accompany you to the surgery unit. Fasting before surgery When going under anaesthesia your stomach must be completely empty. This is to prevent food or liquid from being regurgitated, thereby entering the lungs. Therefore it is important that you follow these fasting rules: • Until 6 hours before appointment time, you may eat and drink as usual. After that, you may not eat anything or drink dairy products. • Until 2 hours before appointment time, you may drink water, juice, soda, coffee or tea. You can put up to 2 tbsp of milk in your coffee or tea. TIP: It is a good idea to drink something sweet up until 2 hours before surgery since it can increase your general wellbeing and reduce hunger and thirst. You may not drink dairy products. Take a shower before your surgery Do take a shower, wash your hair and face and brush your teeth in the morning, before surgery. You may not use lotions or wear make-up, nail varnish, jewelry or piercings. Your preparations before surgery • If you are a smoker you should quit smoking as soon as you know the date of surgery. Smoking delays healing and increases the risk of infection. • If you are using herbal medicine or nutritional supplements, e.g. Gingko Biloba, garlic, vitamin E, fish oil or ginger, you must stop using those 14 days before your surgery, since they can affect your bodys ability to stop bleeding. We kindly ask you to bring the following • Your usual medicins, preferably in the original packaging, and with an up-to-date medicine list • Entertainment such as reading, iPad, audiobooks • This folder After surgery Your bed will be placed in a recovery room, where you will stay for approximately 2 hours, before being carted back to the Day Clinic.
