Discharge from in-patient ward Sutures/clips (staples) Your surgical wound have been closed either with sutures, clips (staples) or steristrips. □ The sutures are self-dissolving. The sutures do not need to be removed as they will dissolve by themselves. □ The sutures are not self-dissolving. The sutures must be removed by your primary care physician (doctor) after 10-12 days after your surgery or the first weekday hereafter. □ Clips (staples) must be removed by your primary care physician (doctor) 10-12 days after your surgery or the first weekday hereafter. □ Steristrips (small, elongated band aid) must be removed 7 days after your surgery which you may do by yourself. Constipation You may become constipated if: • you take morphine • you hydrate and move less than usual It may prevent constipation if you eat prunes, drink more water, and stay active. You can supplement with 2 tablets of Magnesia 500 mg before bedtime. Patients with kidney illness are not advised to take Magnesia. Some patients may be advised to take Laxoberal after discharge - here it is recommended to take 10-15 drops 1-2 times per day, but only if advised before discharge. Out-patient check-up You have been scheduled in our surgical clinic for an out-patient check-up on the date _______________. You will be notified by letter ahead of your appointment. Other appointments: Other medication Some patients may need blood thinning medication after discharge: □ You need Fragmin. □ injection after discharge until the date of _______________ . Fragmin should be injected around 8 PM unless otherwise instructed or agreed upon. □ You may continue with your regular blood thinning medication. □ You do not need blood thinning medication. □ You have been treated with Metronidazol (antibiotic) during your admission. It has the same effect as Antabuse (Disulfiram) and it increases alcohol sensitivity, therefore it is not recommended to drink alcohol while under treatment and until 3 days after treatment has ended.
