OUH LINKS This book is about the conscious, strategic efforts devoted to health innovation at Odense University Hospital – supplemented by reflections and descriptions of the various approaches taken by a very diverse selection of experts. We are keen to share our positive experiences as well as the less positive experiences that are inevitable when innovation meets daily life in one of the largest hospitals in Denmark. The book also presents forward-looking reflections and ideas for further rethinking innovation. I hope that the book will be a useful tool for you in your efforts to initiate or intensify your own strategic innovation. It presents a range of methods for observing, measuring, demonstrating, registering, initiating, evidentially substantiating, assessing, implementing and possibly scaling up technological or organisational solutions within health innovation. Reading the book, you will probably realise how important it is to involve patients, their relatives and healthcare professionals in your innovation efforts. Moreover, the book highlights the need for links to be established between a whole host of stakeholders – especially patients and citizens, healthcare professionals, researchers, educational institutions, the local authorities, GPs and not least private companies. Links which we at OUH feel – in all modesty – that we have succeeded in creating. Last but not least, the book presents lots of concrete examples, experience and helpful advice, which will hopefully inspire you to embark on your own innovation journey. Enjoy the read and then – go innovate! Peder Jest, Chief Medical Officer Odense University Hospital Odense, Denmark, February 2020 6
