Muuto on Neuroaesthetics Intuitively knowing that design has the capacity to greatly affect the way we feel, we continue to believe that it is as important to create intentional atmospheres as objects. In recent years, the concept of neuroaes- thetics has garnered significant attention in the fields of art, design, and architecture. As a scientific discipline, neuroaesthetics explores how our brains respond to aes- thetic experiences, revealing the profound impact of design on human emotions and physiology. Muuto first encountered neuroaesthetics when working on the exhibition “A Space For Being” alongside Google, Reddymade, and The Art + Minds Lab during Salone del Mobile in 2019, finding that it connected our intuitive approach with a body of research. Today, we incorporate this knowledge into the core of what we do, creating intentional objects and spaces. Viewed through the Muuto approach, this long read delves into the basics of neuroaesthetics and how they can be applied to create environments that uplift and enhance well-being. Here, we share the insights we have amassed on our way to better understand how we can design for what feels good. Intuitively knowing that design has the capacity to greatly affect the way we feel, we continue to believe that it is as important to create intentional atmospheres as objects.
