7.2 Actuator The system is compatible with LINAK ® LA36/LA37 actuators (See the related data sheet for further information) The actuator provides thrust. Thrust and stroke requirements depend on the chosen valve type. The actuator can be mounted on the valve with a LINAK Flange Mounting Bracket with interface dimensions according to ISO 5210 and ISO 5211 (flange connection). Learn more at https://www.linak.com/business-areas/valves/ The LA36/LA37 actuator can be delivered with forces from 1,700 to 15,000 N, and stroke lengths from 50 to 350 mm. The the build-in dimension vary from 189 to 237 mm depending on fixture and stroke length. The LA36 actuator provides a torque up to 1,000 Nm for quarter-turn valves. It’s recommended that the actuator’s stroke length is minimum 40 mm longer than the valve for sluice gate, slide gate, gate- and knife gate valves. The actuator stroke length is fixed for quarter-turn valves. 7.2.1 Actuator force/torque Tests and trials will often be required to determine the required force or torque to open or close a given valve type. Several factors play a role, in addition to the actual valve’s physical structure and sealing. The valve data sheet will therefore often not be sufficient. However, most valve manufacturers can deliver data and experienced values (such as required closing force, pressure, valve size and closing torque for quarter-turn valves) , for their valves that will be a good help on selecting a suitable actuator. 7.3 Battery Backup (WCU-UPS) A Battery Backup can be added to ensure a fail-safe operation in case of power cut-offs. It is designed to supply the WCU with voltage in case of power outages and can provide sufficient power for the actuator to reach any pre-progammed position. The Battery Backup is designed to open or close any valve type at least one time. For instance, the Battery Backup is capable of opening and closing a DN300 knife gate valve valve three times. The standby time for a new battery is approximately 12-14 hours. The Battery Backup must be ordered separately.
