LINAK NEWS Medica 2019 The new LINAK inline actuator LA20 has a small and slim design which is suitable for numerous medical applications. page 2 One of the many features of the new electric lifting column LC3 is the low noise level. page 3 At MEDICA, we will launch a new generation of actuator systems for modern patient lifts. page 4 It began with a friend in a wheelchair It was 1976. Two newly graduated mechanical engineers – two good friends – one bound to his wheelchair, decided to create a way for the wheelchair to elevate its owner to standing height. Together they developed the concept for the first electric linear actuator. Here begins the story of LINAK®. A five-year plan was more than enough Bent Jensen and his wife, Lene Jensen, decided to test the idea, and plunged work. They gave themselves five years to convert the idea into a viable business. Within a year the first prototype was ready, and after a few years of solid legwork the first large orders appeared. A new business was born, and Bent and Lene Jensen never looked back. In 1984 the old workshop had completely changed focus. Solely working with the electric actuators and exploring the technology’s potential, the Jensens decide to change the 1907 name ‘Christian Jensen & Sons’ to LINAK® - short for ‘Lineær Aktuator’ (‘linear actuator’ in Danish). LINAK stays the same – but still differnet In 1907 Christian Jensen establishes his workshop in the town of Nordborg in southern Denmark. The workshop specialises in making and repairing flat belt pulleys, V-belt pulleys, grinding mills, forges and other things related to farming and agricultural machinery. Little did Jensen know, that his grandson, Bent Jensen, would later transform the workshop into the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of electric actuator technology for a multitude of business areas. The birth of a brilliant idea The year is 1976. A young and freshly graduated me- chanical engineer has just been told by his father, that he is expected to take over the family business – an old workshop with seven employees. The young engineer is Bent Jensen, and who does not like the idea of running a traditional workshop. He wants to look into the future and build something more electric – to fully make use of his advanced education. Together with a college friend, who was bound to his wheelchair, Jensen drew the lines of what soon became the first electric linear actuator – this one for the friend’s wheelchair. He immediately saw the potential, and kept on developing the concept. IIn 2019 the seven employees have more than 2,400 colleagues. The local workshop has grown into subsidiaries in more than 30 countries worldwide, manufacturing facilities in Denmark, Slovakia, China and the USA, and the largest R&D test centre for electric actuator technology in the world. Bent and Lene Jensen are still spearheading LINAK, doing it the same way as they did in 1976, maintaining a culture of creativity, ingenuity, responsibility and acute customer focus. However, the culture also leaves plenty of room for employees to test new ideas and to care for each other – every day! “We Improve Your Life” is about caring – for the end user, for the customer, and for your colleagues. 1976 Jensen’s grandson, Bent Jensen, takes over 1907 Christian Jensen establishes his workshop in Nordborg, Denmark 1979 The first actuator, an LA30, is ready for sale 1984 Company name changes to ‘LINAK’ 1988 Electronics department established to make a control box for hospital beds 1990 First full actuator system for hospital and care presented 1995 JUMBO™ – the world’s first full system for patient lifts introduced 1999 LINAK opens production in the USA 2005 OpenBus™ introduced 2006 LINAK opens production in the China 2015 The control box CO-series introduced 2017 New hygiene standard IPX6 Washable DURA™ introduced at MEDICA 18 - 21 November, Dusseldorf Booth F11, Hall 14 Your voucher code for a free entrance ticket: exhibitionvouchers-linak.com
