1. Purpose The member organisations are a source of inspiration for ANE, which provides them a platform to generate ideas and share knowhow. ANE has a tradition to organise yearly gettogethers to gather information on topics, which have an impact on engineers’ profession. The objective of the seminar, which brought together political level from the four organisations in Copenhagen on 21 April 2018, was to generate ideas depicting the impact of new industrial revolution on engineers’ education, profession, role in society and ethical responsibility. The participants were engaged in practical exercises with the aim of producing a catalogue of ideas. The work in groups allowed good networking opportunities through exchanging of information and learning from each other. The seminar served as a platform to collect new knowledge and input for the work in each ANE member organisation. The tone was set by guest speakers: Jan Madsen, Professor in computer-based systems and Martin Bentzen, Professor in Ethics from the Technical University of Denmark. Jan Madsen “It is OK to be crazy and fail” “Big breakthroughs happen when multidisciplinary experts work hand-in-hand” “The threat for engineers would be to continue working in silos and avoiding taking risks” Martin Bentzen “Engineers should come out of the closet as ethicists” “Zero failure philosophy should be embedded in ethical code of conduct” “Allocation of personhood to AI and robots is a stupid idea. For traceability and accountability, the ID number would do” Presentations can be found in the meeting folder CATALOGUE OF IDEAS: ANE Joint Boards Seminar 2
