| 219 You can be yourself As an engineer at Ramboll, Alexandre Guidje enjoys being at a company that allows him to work alongside the leading experts in his field, and where diversity is embraced, career development is supported, and the working conditions are incredibly flexible. Ramboll is a global engineering, architecture, and consultancy company employing more than 18,000 experts. Throughout his studies at DTU, Alexandre Guidje always believed that working in this type of company was not for him. He imagined a formal and exclusive culture where one would always have to wear a suit. After Alexandre graduated as an MSc in Environmental Engineering in 2020, he was contacted by a former classmate, who had secured a job at Ramboll and recommended that he go for an interview. Alexandre was hired shortly after: »I quickly realized that I fit right in. During my studies, I specialized in Urban Water Engineering, and I would be able to work with exactly that. Everyone is very welcoming, and there is no dress code. You can be yourself. Since my mum is from Denmark, and my dad is from the Ivory Coast, I have always been a bit afraid that people would not take me seriously because of my skin colour, but that has by no means happened.« Immense opportunities for development As an Engineer in Climate Adaptation and Hydraulics, Alexandre performs hydraulic calculations on how water moves in drainage systems and across surfaces, identifying areas at risk of flooding. »Ramboll has some of Denmark’s leading experts in climate adaptation, and our market position allows us to work on unique and exciting projects where we can truly make a di erence,« he says and adds: »There are so many opportunities at Ramboll. I develop my skills simply through daily interaction with my many helpful colleagues. My ambitions for career development are taken very seriously. My manager and I have talked about designing an industrial Ph.D., since my goal is to be a specialist within my field.« Excellent work-life balance Ramboll not only enables Alexandre to pursue his professional aspirations but also to listen to his own needs in everyday life. The flexible working hours allow him to leave the o ce at 3 PM and then finish his work at home in the evening. »Ramboll also makes it easy for me to get my hair cut, my bike fixed and go to the gym since all these services are available here at our head o ce in Ørestad. It makes for an excellent work-life balance,« he concludes. The perfect place to start your career Every year, Ramboll employs more than 300 student assistants, interns, and thesis students.
