welcome Dear boarder, living at a boarding school is an experience somewhere in between having your own room away from home and living with your family. To a large extent, you are free to do as you please, but there are some rules at the boarding school which you need to follow, just as there would be when being part of a family. You decide how late you want to stay out, when you want to do your homework or go to bed at night. Of course it is also up to you to decide whether you want to close your door and be on your own or whether you feel like talking to friends, teachers or other staff at the boarding school. Providing you with the best possible opportunities to study and focus on school work is essential to us. We therefore expect everyone in the house to be quiet at certain times of the day so you have a chance of doing your homework without being disturbed. People depend on one another at the boarding school. You share part of the responsibility for making everyday life at the boarding school work, and creating a good tone among students and staff. It is therefore your duty to be a good mate, show good behaviour and to take part in performing the duties that come with living here. You should expect no less of others. A warm welcome! Helene Bendorff Kristensen Head of School Welcome to the Boarding School at Grenaa Gymnasium, also simply referred to as “The Boarding”. You are about to become part of a large group of more than 110 young boarders from Denmark and abroad, who are going to study STX, HF or IB at Grenaa Gymnasium. You will gain friends for life here. You will soon experience that living with a group of people with many different cultural backgrounds is fun and educational. In order to make our community work, you must be considerate, helpful and friendly. Moving in at the boarding school is a gentle way of leaving home. We take care of meals and a lot of other practical things, thereby enabling you to attend to school matters as well as lead a busy social life at the boarding school. Creating a good home for everyone at the boarding school is very important to us. We consider it a safe place where you can develop and be part of a healthy and active study environment. You will meet your fellow boarders in the classroom or through the many activities we have at the school and at the boarding school. I look forward to meeting you! Helle Høgh Head of Boarding School 2
