VITENSKAP Oversettelse av spørreskjemaet «The Family Needs Questionnaire - Pediatric» til norsk Av Håvard Eriksen, Anne-Margrethe Linnestad, Ingvil Laberg Holthe, Nina Rohrer-Baumgartner, Marianne Løvstad & Hanne Tuntland Abstract Background : Many families with a child with acquired brain injury (ABI) experience unmet health care needs. There has however been a lack of questionnaires in Norwegian for assessing health care needs. Aim : To translate «The Family Needs Questionnaire - Paediatric» into Norwegian. Method : The translation followed a ten-step procedure, including a forward and backward translation. An expert group assessed the translation, cultural adaptation, and validity. Cognitive interviews were conducted to examine the questionnaire from seven informants` perspectives. Interviews were audiota- ped and transcribed. Analysis was conducted with «The Respond Problem Matrix». Results : The linguistic translation of the instrument was good. The questions were acceptable and understandable. Key findings were related to what timeframe the questions were meant to cover and that an instructional text was overlooked. Other minor findings were related to terms that were adapted to the Norwegian language, including adding terms describing the Norwegian welfare system. Conclusion : The translation and adaptation to Norwegian language has enabled the use of the FNQ-P in a Norwegian setting, providing a useful tool for assessing unmet health care needs in the pediatric ABI population. Key words : Translation, family needs questionnaire, acquired brain injury, paediatric brain injury, mea- surement instrument.
