OUR SOCIAL WORK As part of the organisation’s efforts to fight poverty in Denmark, once again in 2019 our priority was to give vulnerable, poor families and their children a chance to afford the basics most people in Denmark take for granted Thanks to wonderful support from 300 volunteers, Holiday Aid enabled 3,500 children and adults to enjoy a one-week holiday in the summer of 2019. Once again, our Christmas Aid collection set a new record, raising DKK 14.8 million and enabling us to distribute Christmas Aid to a total of 11,402 families. Confirmation Aid and Birthday Aid were also among our 2019 initiatives. In 2019, a total of 400 happy confirmands received a helping hand in the shape of DKK 2,000 for their confirmation day, showing an increase from 250 in 2018. In 2019, Birthday Aid reached 500 families. From the feedback and evaluations received by Danish People’s Aid, it is evident how much the families receiving help appreciate it. Each year, countless people send us grateful, moving letters. This inspires every volunteer in the organisation to continue his or her dedicated effort. Going forward, fighting poverty and inequality will continue to be a key area for Danish People’s Aid. In 2020, we have phased out Birthday Aid and replaced it with School Start Aid, helping new school children from poor families. The aid includes a school bag, a lunch box, a drinking bottle, a pencil case etc. The aim is to get children from poor families off a good start in their school life. You only experience one first day at school. Today it is more important than ever for a child to regard being part of new social contexts as something positive Especially on his or her first day at school. The holiday help is supported by Arbejdsmarkedets Feriefond, Ole Kirk´s Fond, Augustinus Fonden, HK Danmark and Socialstyrelsen The Christmas aid is supported by Ekstra Bladet, private foundations, companies, Socialstyrelsen and private contributors. The confirmation help is supported by the Ole Kirk´ Foundation and the Hempel Fonden. 4 ANNUAL REPORT 2019
