CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENT We have set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations and from the rest of the value chain. To achieve these targets, it is crucial that we take a data-driven approach and continuously report on our progress and initiatives. Our climate and environmental ambitions are closely linked to our business, and we create incentives that commit us to delivering on them. It is crucial for us that our climate targets are science-based. We therefore joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in early 2022. This is a partnership between the UN Global Compact, the Carbon Disclosure Project, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the World Resources Institute. In early 2023, our climate targets were validated by SBTi. This made us the first major European company in our sector to receive the seal of approval that our climate goals are science-based, realistic and in line with the ambitions of the Paris Agreement. RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES TO CONTRIBUTE TO 2025 TARGETS Scope 1 and 2 emissions relate primarily to the group’s own consumption. They represent less than 2 % of our total CO 2 emissions, but that does not change the fact that bringing down emissions is a priority for us. Within the group, resource-efficient operations, production and logistics are crucial for achieving our targets. In order to reach our 2025 target of a 30 % reduction in our scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2019, we need to increase our use of renewable energy sources. Therefore, we are installing solar panels at a number of locations so we can produce much of the renewable energy we need ourselves. Moreover, we will invest in the production of green electricity in the form of new solar and wind farms, and in 2024 we expect to be able to finalise an energy purchase agreement on green power, which adds additionality to the Danish renewable energy market. We are constantly working to reduce emissions through energy optimisation and by electrifying our locations, and will use high-energy alternatives to gas and oil, including hydrogen. Our fleet, which comprises tankers and flatbed trucks, is continuously being updated to include more modern vehicles with lower fuel consumption capable of carrying bigger loads. Due to the distances involved and the loads transported by the trucks, the technology needed to transport goods using renewable energy sources does not exist at the present time, but we are closely monitoring developments 45 Creating the Future – Strong results – Our customers’ preferred partner – Creating value through sustainable solutions – Success through commitment and leadership – Consolidated financial statements
