Table 3. Results of the coccidia efficiency (% lysis of oocysts) of Stalosan® F (Vilofoss) against Cystoisospora suis challenge (isolated from 9–14-day piglets), in a dilution of 50 g/L, in a solution without organic matter and with organic matter (3%, 5% and 7%) of interferent (integral milk) and under different exposure times to the tested product (30 min., 2h, 6h, 24h and 48h). Inoculum 1.5x10 5 oocysts/ml. Data are presented as percentage (%) of lysis of Cystoisospora suis oocysts. February 2021. Brazil. Results of the coccidia efficiency (% inhibition of sporulation of oocysts) of Stalosan® F (Vilofoss) against Cystoisospora suis challenge (isolated from 9–14-day piglets), in a dilution of 50 g/L, in a solution without organic matter and with organic matter (3%, 5% and 7%) of interferent (integral milk) and under different exposure times to the tested product (30 min., 2h, 6h, 24h and 48h). Inoculum 1.5x10 5 oocysts/ml. Data are presented as percentage (%) of inhibition of sporulation of Cystoisospora suis oocysts. February 2021. Brazil. Effe ct of inhibition of sporulation (%) interferent/organic Dilution 50 g/L matter (%) Time of exposition 30 min 2 h 6 h 24 h 48 h Absent 9.8 10.5 22.2 49.3 66.2 3% 8.5 9.3 18.4 31.6 64.0 5% 8.4 9.0 13.5 31.0 64.0 7% 8.0 9.0 11.1 27.3 62.5 Attention : The results of coccidicidal effect and sporulation inhibitor are complementary. For instance, if we have 100 oocysts, with a litical effect of 97% (table 3 - 48 h without organic matter), 3% of oocysts still viable (3 oocysts). However, these remain viable oocysts 66.2% have an inhibition of sporulation effect and then, now we have only 1,014 oocysts that remain viable (infectious). In the other words, we have an efficiency of 98.98% over the total viable oocysts. The results are always about viable oocysts. In the Stalosan® F trial it is clear that are a dose and a time response effect. In practice, Stalosan® F will be used on three consecutive days and I believe that action will be better in 24-hour efficacy. Cystoisospora suis is a very resistant parasite and I think the results of the test are good. However, 48-hour efficacy showed significant percentage of oocyst lysis, even with high organic matter. It seems, that Stalosan® F works better in a long contact time, which can be considered as a good basis for Cystoisospora suis control in pig production.
