Stalosan® F test against Cystoisospora suis Brazil, 2021 Cystoisospora suis is an intracellular parasite and an important cause of diarrhea in young suckling piglets around the world. Piglets with Cystoisospora suis develop diarrhea of varying consistency, mostly at 7 to 15 days of age. The prevalence is high, but death occurs rarely. The main impact is related to reduced weight gain and overall poor performance of infected piglets, and it had a great economic impact. With this regard Sanphar Brazil team has conducted an In Vitro test with Stalosan® F against Cystoisospora suis (swine coccidia). For this experiment, Stalosan® F was diluted at 30 and 50g/L, without organic matter, with 3%, 5% and 7% organic matter (integral milk), like the previous, performed by CEDISA* against poultry and swine field isolates performed in 2016. To evaluation non-sporulated oocyst was maintained at 25 °C and 85% of relative humid. After that the percentage of sporulation was measured. Each assay was performed in triplicate. Here are the results from the test: Table 1. Results of the coccidia efficiency (% lysis of oocysts) of Stalosan® F (Vilofoss) against Cystoisospora suis challenge (isolated from 9–14-day piglets), in a dilution of 30 g/L, in a solution without organic matter and with organic matter (3%, 5% and 7%) of interferent (integral milk) and under different exposure times to the tested product (30 min., 2h, 6h, 24h and 48h). Inoculum 1.5x10 5 oocysts/mL. Data are presented as percentage (%) of lysis of Cystoisospora suis oocysts. February 2021. Brazil.
