4 DLF A/S CSR Report 2021/22 Long-term value creation This year we have worked with the global joint values that we defined together in 2021. We are using the values actively to plot a joint course for our future development as a company and as an organisation, and to promote a global sense of team spirit and cooperation worldwide. The values are deeply anchored in our Management and inte- grated in day-to-day operations, which is a pre- requisite for the values to be inherent in and for developing our organisation One of our values involves the climate and sus- tainability. These values stretch far back in our work with plant breeding, which develops new varieties that perform well in terms of yields and characteristics while contributing positively to the climate and the environment. In spring, this work was recognised in the international European Seed Magazine, which named the 20 most climate- friendly seed companies in Europe. DLF received an award for its root research, which has revealed considerable differences in the varieties’ rootmass production and has demonstrated that the best varieties can produce 30% larger root masses than standard varieties. In order for plants to produce, they must perform both above and below ground. Plants are like ice- bergs; what we see above the surface is only part of the picture. And our research into root growth etc. is setting new standards. We must work with the entire plant when developing plants that are stronger and more robust in terms of the climate and that utilise water and nutrients more efficiently. Plant breeding is a crucial discipline in efforts to adapt our agricultural production in a greener and more sustainable direction, and grass, sugar beet and legumes are some of the most sustainable cli- mate- and environmentalfriendly crops.
