~ With a sharp sense of contemporary Functionalist style and a nod to the geometric shapes of the German design school Bauhaus, Mogens Lassen designed the iconic Kubus candleholder in 1962, an object then reserved for family and close architect colleagues. The now expanded Kubus collection, partly designed by Mogens, partly by his grandson, Søren Lassen, is still crafted in Denmark and it has achieved the status of a modern international icon. Mogens Lassen’s love for vigorous mathematical proportions and expressions is the red thread in this epochal collection. Never in production when first designed, the architect’s grandson took it to heart to begin producing the candlestick in 1994 and still does so today. Since then several new family members to supplement the series have been launched and now consists of Kubus 1, Line, Kubus 4, Kubus 8, Kubus T, Kubus Bowl Mini, Kubus Bowl Small, Kubus Bowl Large, Kubus Bowl Centerpiece Small, Kubus Bowl Centerpiece Large, Kubus Vase Lolo, Kubus Vase Lily and Kubus Vase Flora as well as accessories to the Kubus collection. The candleholders are easy to clean: Place it in the oven at 75 degrees celsius upside down on a baking sheet for 15-20 minutes and follow by polishing with a moistened cloth. Every bowl comes with an inlay making it suitable for food or plants.
