14 TOP DESIGN OF BELMAN REMARKABLE FCC EXPANSION JOINT Not only did Belman reduce delivery time to 12 weeks to help out, we also worked closely with the client on the design. The client requested Belman to find a suitable method to relieve the stresses placed on the nozzles in this modernisation of an old FCC unit. The Expansion Joint solution is based on Axens specifications, combined with Belman’s experience and UOP’s practices. This mean the same approach as UOP by offering 2 ply bellows, whereby one layer is able to bear the full load. Belman included Finite Element Analysis (FEA), bellow and part calculations as well as analysis of the stresses in the pipe line and the resultant loads on vessel nozzles. 15 PROJECT FLASHBACK EXPANSION JOINTS IN DUPLEX AND SUPERDUPLEX Two special Expansion Joints for a floating liquefied nitrogen gas (FLNG) facility – in Australia, installed in the Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) modules. Due to the media, and as a special project requirement, both the bellows and the flanges of the Expansion Joints were completely manufactured from Duplex and Superduplex. An additional project requirement demanded that the complete Expansion Joint, including the bellows should be coated, with a special primer and a topcoat, due to the offshore marine and salt laden environment. Considering the materials chosen this was quite unusual.
