CASE STORY Boiler connectivity saves fuel and costs for Greek tanker owner Alfa Laval Digital Services for Aalborg boilers As the marine industry adopts connectivity at a growing pace, its benefit for vessels is becoming more apparent. One Greek tanker owner, in particular, has no doubt as to what connectivity offers. The shipowner takes advantage of Alfa Laval Digital Services for Aalborg boilers, which have led to tangible fuel and cost savings that easily outweigh the service price. From data gathering to deep analysis The Greek tanker owner, who has two Alfa Laval Aalborg OL boilers on board, began using Alfa Laval Digital Services in mid-2019. The services for boilers are available in two packages, Silver and Gold, which both provide online remote monitoring and data-based remote support. In this case, the customer opted for the Gold package, which also includes monthly health reports and in-depth performance analysis from Alfa Laval boiler experts. “Gathering the data and making it accessible online can simplify remote troubleshooting and reduce the need for physical service visits,” says Anders Schibsbye Smedegaard, Technical Development Manager for Alfa Laval Digital Services. “In this case, however, the customer wanted to dig deeper and find ways to decrease OPEX by optimizing boiler performance.”
