VIKING Offshore Offshore Evacuation Systems VIKING SES-2c arctic Offshore Evacuation System SpEcIal FEaturES SES-2C Arctic is the ultimate high capacity evacuation system for offshore installations in frozen waters and harsh arctic weather conditions. A special design incorporates a counterweight system that compensates for the heave of the vessel (even in heavy seas), and gives enough stability to deploy the system and board directly onto supply vessels, icebreakers, and other ships. In the Arctic summer, when the sea is not frozen, the system can also be deployed to the sea using a boarding platform and liferafts as means of evacuation. It features controlled launching and recovery in temperatures from -40°C to +65°C, and comes complete with integrated liferafts. Evacuation capacity is 140 persons within 10 minutes from evacuation heights of up to 40 meters. SES-2C Arctic has a type approval and consists of the following components: Blast proof container The container is the structural interface to the platform deck. The SES-2C standard position on the deck is cantilevered from the deck’s edge. When the evacuation system is not in use, all components incl. liferafts are safely stored inside the blast proof container. constant speed winch. An electrical motor enables recovery of the system when dry. Boarding platform The boarding platform is situated at the base of the chute. It inflates automatically and acts as sea reference point where evacuees can await dry transfer to integrated liferafts or fast rescue crafts. counterweight system This arrangement enables the system to be deployed not only to the sea, but also to standby vessels, ice breakers, and other ships. liferafts The system comes with integrated liferafts that are stored inside the blast proof container and accessed via the boarding platform when in use. All VIKING liferafts comply with SOLAS requirements and are equipped with either A-, or B-Pack. Fire retarding evacuation chute The evacuation chute provides a simple, safe and reliable method for transferring evacuees from deck levels down to sea level. It is divided into cells with speed retarding slides running at opposing angles in a zigzag effect. Openings in the chute located behind each slide, provide easy entry and exit at any level. The speed retarding slides also permit evacuees wearing lifejackets, survival suits and breathing apparatus to pass safely through the chute. The length of the chute is calculated to allow for side motion under strong wind and current conditions. Stabilising weight The stabilising weight is attached to 3 winch wires at the base of the chute and hangs below the waterline when deployed. It keeps the escape passage/chute taut and reduces side motion from wind and sea current. When deployed to a vessel, the counterweight arrangement stabilizes the system. Service Liferafts and boarding platform must be recertified every year. Annual inspection and system function test (performed at the same time as the liferafts’ and boarding platform’s service). Winch wires shall be inspected regularly and renewed at intervals not exceeding 4 years. Periodical lubrication of winch. release system SES-2C ARCTIC offers controlled launching using gravity.
