First, can you give us a quick roundup on your role at Sennheiser Communications? I am Software Product Owner, which is project management functions within the Software department. When I first tried the role as people and project manager 11 years ago, I almost instantly knew I had found my career path. Basically, my job is about enabling my colleagues to be the best they can be. I ensure that their inspiration and competences always match the technical challenges. I break down project tasks and make sure that the team knows where we are in the project and what their individual next steps are. Knowing the direction makes us all pull together – it’s a very powerful and rewarding experience. The best is that I am in an organisation packed with seriously skilled people: My colleagues just have this certain can-doattitude and passion for moving things forward. That is very motivating for me as a person and a major help in my work to establish a new agile project model at Sennheiser Communications Please tell us about this new project model. Until now we have used a traditional sequential waterfall project methodology in our development projects. However, as a high-end technology company we deal with new technologies and opportunities emerging at a speed never seen before. We think of the agile methodology as the best way to face this new reality and pursue opportunities ahead of us. We are sure that the agile methodology can help us to react faster to changes, create transparency, and decrease time-to-market. That means that we can apply changes to the products in a way that improves quality and maintains our position as a premium brand. Additionally, we see great potential benefits in shortening the decision path and give our colleagues the power to take decisions within their own field of competence. Already at this early stage I feel my colleagues’ dedication to the idea, which only strengthens my belief in that we are on the right path. How do you introduce the agile methodology at Sennheiser Communications? We decided that the best way to do it is via a steering group and pilot project. Other companies would then choose a minor project. But we fly sky high and therefore decided to do quite the opposite: We simply took one of our strategic projects as a pilot to gain as much learnings as possible, touching as many aspects of project development as possible. If I was considering opting for new challenges, why should I consider Sennheiser Communications? I would recommend to apply for a job at Sennheiser Communications because you both have the possibility to change the status quo and to create your own comfort space based on your professional abilities. In this dynamic and highly performing company you will have the opportunity to oversee a wide set of tasks. It’s the whole product that counts, not the code or hardware isolated for itself. So, product fascination is as important as collaboration skills. They are alpha-omega when you work on many parallel tasks with a team, as we do. If you thrive in such an environment, I would say that you can get a dream job at Sennheiser Communications.
