Pain treatment In the first couple of days the wound may be sore. This does not indicate that the wound is infected but can be caused by the swelling or wound pain. Therefore it is important to elevate the wounded body part over heart height to avoid or decrease swelling. If needed you can use pain-relieving medication without prescription such as Paracetamol. The bandage You must keep the bandage clean and dry. However, if the bandage becomes wet, you must change the bandage to avoid bacteria in the wound. If is necessary to change the bandage, you can use your own bandage/plaster etc. Big bandages, which are drenched the same day, should be changed in the Emergency Room.
