Randers Kommune Everyday art Randers is rich in works of art in public places, and it is exactly art and culture which contributes to the sense of community in the municipality. The sculptures are numerous and very diverse. They illustrate a common cultural heritage, which we as citizens and people can see ourselves in, and be proud of. In this brochure you can get an overview of the art in the entire Randers Municipality. Earlier we have published a brochure on the sculptures in the city centre of Randers, but in this folder, that view is expanded to the municipality as a whole. With this brochure, we wish to ensure equal access to the local cultural life. For this purpose, it has been decided that all included sculptures should be available to the public. You will encounter them in your everyday life, situated in streets and squares, in parks, by schools and in cemeteries. The sculptures create breathing space – small oases – which offer a break in our daily business and provide us with new impulses. In Randers, the public sculptures have often caused mixed reactions. There are examples of debates involving letters to the editor, as well as action directed against specific sculptures. Encountering art in everyday life often causes us to take a personal position and to consider our own attitudes. This is exactly what art is meant to do – move us – wake us from the daily routines and make us view the world from a different perspective. In this brochure, no less than 67 sculptures are presented. You can bring the brochure with you, as you explore the many sculptures in the municipality. On the web page www.skulpturer.randers.dk you can find further material, and learn more about the sculptures in Randers. Enjoy Henning Jensen Nyhuus Mayor Skulpturer i det fri 2
