MARK Q DESIGN UPDATE EPDM curtain track ( patent pending) The curtain track is a rail in which the vinyl curtain can be installed in order to ensure the air tightness at the door end in a reefer container. The vinyl curtain is used in the reefer container during transportation of cargoes under modified or controlled atmosphere. The standard curtain track used today is made of aluminium and is assembled of 4 profiles. The new MCI curtain track is made out of EPDM rubber (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) and is delivered in one complete piece. The combination of the new material and the new design increases the air tightness, provides better resistance against water penetration and faster installation of the curtain. Aluminum curtain track Corner joint area EPDM curtain track Background of the design update The aluminum curtain track rail has the inherent problem that it doesn´t always fit the container frame. Therefore, sealant has to be applied at the gap areas (track joint area, corner area and insert area). Sealant, over time, will mould or deteriorate. Corner joint area Main area Main area Advantages of the EPDM curtain track 1. Better long term air tightness as there are no joint areas. The track is tested according to rules for air tightness outlined by Transfresh. MCI’s internal quality criterion is 50% higher than Transfresh’s. The new EPDM track withstands 3 times that of the Transfresh rule. 2. Hygenic, watertight and clean appearance with no rivets, joints or use of sealant which can attract mould or bacteria. EPDM curtain track installation 3. Easy installation in the depot (all you need is a hammer). 4. Reduced M&R cost through elimination of sealant application during repairs. 5. Easy shipping around the world reduces the handling cost. 6. Theft prevention. EPDM is not an attractive material, unlike aluminium.
