NEWSIntegrated Reefer 4th quarter 2017 10 years of Integrated Reefer News By Søren Leth Johannsen, Chief Commercial Officer Released to coincide with the Intermodal Show in Amsterdam, our usual extended 4th quarter edition also marks the 10th anniversary of our modest quarterly newsletter. Back in 2007, this publication began life by pioneering awareness of the power consumption of reefer machines. I recall that we wrote about some of the reasons why the then relatively unknown Star Cool had such low power consumption, among others thanks to a tailored new two-stage compressor with its speed controlled by a frequency converter. It’s hard to believe today that this technology was ever new. Back then, however, it was radical thinking in a conservative industry. These features and many more are still the reason why Star Cool in 2017 has the lowest power consumption on the market, without compromising precise temperature control. However, one thing has definitely changed since 2007: Star Cool has gone from being a novel niche machine to where we are today – the world’s second biggest-selling brand for the last two years in succession. I hope you will agree with me that MCI has not sat back and rested on its laurels, even though the fundamentals of Star Cool still prevail today. The drive to support our customers in optimising their top and bottom lines with features like the CA system, launched back in 2009, is a mission for MCI. Just this year, we introduced our R513A refrigerant option, launched our Intelligent Trip Inspection (ITI) system, and were industry first movers in installing a power meter in our Star Cool reefer machines. New CEO It is my pleasure to inform you about the appointment of Sean S. Fitzgerald as the new Chief Executive Officer of MCI, with effect from 1 January 2018. An industry executive with over 20 years of extensive expertise across management, manufacturing, product management and marketing, Fitzgerald will be an asset both for MCI and for all our customers. Since 2014, he has acted as President of Joy Global China, part of the Japanese manufacturing company Komatsu Mining Corp, successfully leading eight plants in China. Prior to this, he was Regional Vice President of Joy Mining Machinery, where he was responsible for 13 plants in the Americas. He also held a series of executive positions during his almost 10 years at General Electric. I hope you will enjoy reading this extended 4th quarter edition of Integrated Reefer News. If you are planning to attend the Intermodal Show in Amsterdam from 28-30 November, I warmly invite you to visit our stand and ask any questions we haven’t touched upon over the last 10 years in these pages, or that you would like to learn more about.
