NEWSIntegrated reefer 1st quarter 2017 Making further inroads into the market Customer care, reliability, technology By Soren Leth Johannsen, Chief Commercial Officer The container shipping market in 2016 was in many ways challenging for operators and manufacturers, as well as for the reefer segment. Even though the growth in perishable volumes held up, it did not result in significant demand for new reefer equipment. The year ended with merely 80,000 reefers having been produced, a 45% drop compared to the previous year. product itself also play a vital role. A good example is the industrychanging Star Cool CA™ system, which is now approaching 40,000 CA systems in operation. Another important element of our success is the StarConomy™ control software that takes energy efficiency to a new level while putting cargo care first. At the same time, we keep adding to the benefits and improvements of our products and solutions. From now on, all Star Cool reefers will be equipped with a built-in power meter. The ability to use the alternative, environmentally friendly R513A refrigerant is also close to full rollout. For MCI, it was also a challenge to keep our factories in China and Chile in constant operation, but we succeeded and overall are in many ways looking back on an exciting year. Overall, Star Cool securely established itself as No. 2 in terms of global market share, even when excluding the volumes sold to affiliated Maersk companies. Keeping our focus on customer benefits We believe that this success is founded to a large extent on dedicated customer care and high reliability. The features and options of the Bringing added transparency to the market In a new development, MCI has had the energy efficiency of its reefers evaluated by COWI, a leading global engineering consultancy. While the ultimate approval for us is seen in terms of repeat orders from satisfied customers, this innovation provides our industry today with the closest thing we have to energy labelling, as seen in many other products and machines. The new built-in energy meter will provide you with real-time proof of efficiency, every day.
