June 2012 The Marketing Newsletter Prograss special edition CONTeNTS DLF GeNeTICS IN TOP eveNTS THIS SUMMeR SOUTH AFRICA, A LeAP ON OUR LeARNING CURve INNOvATION DRIveS US TO THe UTMOST DLF-TRIFOLIUM: SeeDS & SCIeNCe DLF Genetics in Top Events this Summer In the summer of 2012 the world will enjoy top sports events including the european Football Championship and the Olympic Games. Coincidentally, both events will take place this time in europe. Since the Football World Championship in South Africa, DLF-TRIFOLIUM, with a market share of 50% in europe, is committed to such major events to supply its expertise and solutions. In the continental climate, like in Poland and Ukraine, the requirements for grass seed are quite different than in sub-tropical South Africa. These two european countries have had a harsh winter with frost that sometimes exceed 25 degrees Celsius below zero. Smooth-stalked Meadow-grass withstands this extreme cold particularly well, but nevertheless fields are in poor shape after the cold winter. In many cases stadium groundsmen will put in sod grass, grown in Western europe, to renew the fields entirely. Additional to the sods, they will often ”green up” the grass with an extra overseeding in the months just before the kick off to ensure fields are again in perfect condition, as they did in South Africa. The expertise and grass seeds from DLF-TRIFOLIUM will play a role in this process again. Through sod growers and distributors, DLF-TRIFOLIUM technology is applied by groundsmen at stadiums hosting top european football events. A few months later the Olympic tournament takes place in London. Here, the conditions are completely different. The mild english climate requires different grasses. Here the fine leaved Perennial Ryegrass plays a more important role. This species cannot withstand the extreme frost experienced in Poland and Ukraine, but in Western europe it is the material of choice. DLF-TRIFOLIUM can credit the Olympic Delivery Authority in its list of references as DLF-TROLIUM genetics, expertise and solutions find their way into a quite a number of the Olympic tournament venues.
